At Halsell Builders, our story starts right here on California’s Central Coast. This is home—the place where we were born and raised, learned our craft, and built lasting relationships with the people who make this region so special. Those deep roots come with a responsibility we take to heart: to strengthen the community that’s given us so much. Whether it’s providing beds and dignity through housing, supporting healing and resilience, or helping shape a thriving future through regional collaboration, we believe in showing up for our neighbors and investing in the well-being of this place we all call home.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Every great build starts the same way—stacked lumber in the morning light. That’s how each Sleep in Heavenly Peace build begins. But this isn’t about profit or square footage—it’s about dignity. By mid-morning, those raw boards become a pop-up factory of hope. Volunteers of all ages—some new to tools, others seasoned tradespeople—cut, sand, and assemble beds side by side. Families, coworkers, and neighbors find a shared rhythm of teamwork and purpose. Every board cut and screw driven serves one simple mission: to make sure no child sleeps on the floor in our town.
What started as a few small builds has grown into a full-scale effort with warehouses, trailers, and delivery teams. Yet the most powerful moment is still the same—when a volunteer sets up a finished bed and watches a child climb in for the first time.
For Halsell Builders, this isn’t a side project—it’s our way of giving back, rooted in the trades, community, and service. Covered in sawdust and gratitude, we remember why we build: to lift people up, one family, one bed at a time.
Other Community Involvement
Our commitment to service doesn’t stop at the job site. As active members of the REACH Council, we work with local leaders to strengthen the Central Coast’s economic and social fabric. Through REACH, we help shape regional growth that creates opportunity—good jobs, sustainable development, and a thriving future. For us, it’s another way to build—not with tools and timber, but with vision and collaboration.
We’re also honored to support Healing Heroes Through Horsemanship, a nonprofit helping veterans and first responders find peace and purpose through working with horses. Their courage and resilience reflect the same values that guide us in construction. Supporting this mission reminds us that healing—like building—happens one steady step at a time.
Through our involvement on the advisory commitee with Behavioral Wellness of Santa Barbara County, we help promote mental health services that strengthen individuals, families, and communities. We believe wellness is the foundation of a healthy community, and we’re proud to stand beside those expanding care and compassion for all.
Leadership in our industry is another way we serve. Our team’s long history of engagement includes past presidencies with the Home Builders Association of the Central Coast, the Santa Maria Valley Contractors Association, and EconAlliance. These organizations have been vital in advocating for responsible growth, supporting local businesses, and developing the next generation of tradespeople. We’re proud to have played a role in helping guide our industry and our region forward.
Because at Halsell Builders, we believe the most important thing we’ll ever build is community.
