Help Us Bring Ava Home
Ava Greene, an Albertson's employee, Harley enthusiast, and all-around beautiful soul, was in a motorcycle accident on August 5, 2014. She spent weeks in and out of a coma and the right side of her face was nearly shattered. Her diagnosis was that she would never be able to scratch an itch on her face. But Ava continues to make slow, steady progress. She's working very hard towards rehabilitation, and she was in need of special facilities to return home.
What Ava Needs
In order to make Ava's home livable for her, two things needed to happen. First, existing hallways and access to the home had to be made wheelchair accessible, which means wheelchair ramps at exterior doors and widening common hallways and doors in her home for ease of movement. Second, a new accessible bedroom and bathroom needed to be built at the rear of the home to give Ava a space that accommodates her needs.
The Final Result
Halsell Builders stepped in to raise funds, donate design services, secure construction permits and manage the project. We asked the community for help, and we're so proud to share here that we were not disappointed. The gifts of time and talent from our own staff here at Halsell Builders, nearly every trade partner and vendor with which we work, and several members of the community made this project possible. We're honored to have been part of it.
The project is complete, and Ava is in the process of moving back into her remodeled home. The improvements made possible by the generous support of our community will allow Ava to enjoy the familiarity of her home with all of the accommodations she needs for a healthy, productive life.
We see this kind of generosity again and again here in Santa Maria. People in this community are always willing to help - they simply have to know what you need.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank everyone who stepped in. Ava, we wish you the best in your new home.
